My Evolving Experience as a Class Leader

Growth  By: Brenecia Bradshaw  Introduction: Starting Small, Learning Big      When I first stepped into the role of class leader, I expected a set of simple tasks. I thought it would be me just helping with attendance, helping the professor, and checking in on students, making sure they were on task straightforward and nothing too intense or too much. But I didn’t expect how much this experience would change how I've seen leadership. Instead of just following instructions, I discovered that I was developing in various ways and discovering what it meant to be accountable, helpful, and connected. Taking on Responsibility: Organizing Attendance and Communication      One of my first tasks to complete early on was taking attendance sooner or later, more tasks came along with it. While taking attendance may seem small, it was made out to be my first step into leadership as I said before, this became so much easier as we went deeper into it, and I...

Growing Through Leadership: My Evolving Experience in a Managerial Role Written by: Ashley Curvelo Introduction: From Uncertainty to Confidence In my last blog, I shared my early experience as a class manager, navigating the unfamiliar waters of leadership. Stepping Up During Presentations: Supporting Peers and Professor Presentations were one of the most enjoyable aspects of my role. During this time, I had the...

Brenecia Bradshaw Reflection on My Experience as a Class Leader   Being a class leader has been a easy and rewarding experience so far, and it’s helped me grow in ways I hadn’t expected. When I first took on the responsibility, I thought it would be really hard but taking attendance, helping the professor with administrative tasks, and making sure students were on track is so easy . It seemed straightforward and honestly, I thought everyone else would feel the same way. So when I realized that some students didn’t find it as easy or enjoyable as I did, I was surprised. For me, it’s been fun, and I’ve learned so much from this role.   Taking Attendance and Helping the Professor   One of my first tasks as a class leader was taking attendance, and while that may seem so little, it was my first step into this leadership position. Keeping track of who was present each day taught me to be more organized and observant. It also gave me a chance to learn responsibility every class...

My Take on Leadership

My Take on Leadership Written by: Ashley Curvelo Introduction: Embracing the Unknown Have you ever challenged yourself to do something completely out of your comfort zone? For me, taking on a managerial role in a public speaking class was different than my usual self. I’m someone who doesn’t yet have a clear path in life, unsure of what I want to do, or even what my passions and hobbies are. This experience wasn’t just about fulfilling a role in class; it was a personal quest to learn more about myself, to see if I’d discover something new about my capabilities or preferences. When my teacher asked for a volunteer to take on the managerial role, my first reaction was an immediate and firm "No." It seemed like a daunting task, which was perhaps why no one else stepped up. One woman briefly expressed interest, but the silence that followed was almost deafening. In those thirty seconds of hesitation, I had a realization. If I wanted to grow and step out of my comfort zone, thi...
